Mangoli Work Retreat, Nainital architecture by Gautam Bhatia

Mangoli Work Retreat, Nainital

The Mangoli Apartment Complex functions as a work-from-home structure where 40 apartments are assembled around a common pool and recreation area, with a common work station on the lower floor. The idea was to make a wholly immersive building experience of a shared insular dense and entirely self-sustained community.

Tree House Architecture by Gautam Bhatia

Tree House

The very concept of a tree house supports the idea of climbing. To reach heights in a tree is often seen as a victory against gravity. At the same time the changing heights accords a different relationship with the forest, the ground, the foliage and the sky. Keeping this in mind our forest house engages with the surroundings, in a gradual opening up as it moves upwards towards the sky. Its graded rise occurs with an entrance porch at the ground level, a living room above, dining yet higher, and at the very top, the bedroom. The transition on wooden platforms suspended in space that is encased in continuous wooden planking that depletes as it rises, and is gradually encased in glass.

House Architecture by Gautam Bhatia

Houses

As the name suggests, the Lake House is a vacation home on Kumarakam lake in Kerala. Its primary feature is its orientation to the waterfront. While all rooms get a view of the lake, the house plan disperses and fragments across the site to indulge the occupant in a permanent feel of the surrounding landscape – a landscape composed of the lake, a canal that weaves through the house, and the extensive garden of banana and coconut palms.

Day Night House Architecture by Gautam Bhatia

Day Night House

The house is an insert in the forest floor, its roof, a wooden platform on the ground. Design as a day-night house. The home is a complete entity submerged in the earth. Two bedrooms, living and dining with links to underground courtyards and gardens.
