Devigarh Palace Hotel, Udaipur - Heritage

A sixteenth-century palace, 20 km north of Udaipur, is converted into a luxury hotel. The structure is built on a series of rock outcroppings that are concealed by the outer symmetry of the façade. As the visitor rises within the structure, courtyards at different levels reveal themselves – Lotus Court, Durbar Court, Zenana Court – with sets of private suites defining their periphery. The design reorganizes existing spaces and reorients them in a way that they participate with their immediate courtyard and the surrounding landscape. Despite the introduction of air-conditioning and other services, the structure retains the fabric of the old palace.
